Beautiful Lava Viewing Night


Yesterdays snow on Mauna Kea - contributed by my good friend and avid photographer Ron Boyle.

The almost full moon and Jupiter shone brightly among the stars over top the glowing red & orange of the molten lava dumping into the ocean at Waikupanaha last night. With the rising moon dramatically lighting up the entire steam plume. Tonight’s full moon may offer the same delights. Witnesses out on the viewing are near the coast reported seeing lava running off the sea cliffs.

Further down the coast at what we are naming Waikupanaha West, geologists found continued rivulets of pahoehoe meeting the sea, as in the photo below.
